Lord Mayors welcome Federal National Urban Forum

The Lord Mayors of Australia's capital cities welcomed the announcement of the National Urban Forum by Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Anthony Albanese in Sydney today.

The CCCLM will be represented on the National Urban Forum by its Chair, Lord Mayor of Perth, Lisa Scaffidi.  The Lord Mayor of Sydney has also been appointed to the Forum.

Lord Mayor Scaffidi, in welcoming the National Urban Forum, acknowledged its important role as an advisory mechanism informing the Federal Government on the implementation of the National Urban Policy.

“This Forum is another welcome step towards embedding an active and on-going role for the Federal Government in Australia’s cities and builds upon its other initiatives in Urban Policy, including the establishment of the Major Cities Unit, development of the National Urban Policy Our Cities, Our Future; the State of Australian Cities report and the delivery of the Liveable Cities program.

“These initiatives recognise the importance of Australia’s cities – our Cities are home to over three quarters of the population, 80 per cent of Australia’s economic activity and provide our international gateways.

“We strongly welcome the Federal Government’s continued investment and engagement in our Cities”.

Lord Mayor Scaffidi looks forward to actively participating in the first meeting of the Forum, to be held next month.
