This strategy will include seeking funding from the Australian Government and sponsorship from major Australian companies.
Homeless Connect is an annual event that originated in San Francisco at which homeless people are formally welcomed to the city as guests for the day. Guests are provided with a range of goods, services, meals and activities by service providers and corporate and community volunteers.
CCCLM Chairman and City of Adelaide Lord Mayor Michael Harbison said he encouraged discussion about the event and the benefits it could bring to the capital cities.
“Homelessness is an issue that is at the forefront of the CCCLM agenda. Capital cities are the centre of service providers and CCCLM is continually working towards developing strategies that can assist to reduce homelessness,” said the Lord Mayor.
“Homeless Connect is an innovative program as it not only connects homeless people to service providers but offers the community a real opportunity to participate.
“CCCLM has made a commitment to the Australian Government to roll out Homeless Connect events from November this year.”
